THE BESTIE BRIEF

For women bookkeeping firm owners who get it.

Issue No. 1 | June 22, 2026

There's a seat at the table I've been holding for you.

Not in a cheesy, motivational-poster kind of way. I mean it literally. I have been thinking about creating this space for a long time - a place that isn't a sales page, isn't a social media caption written for an algorithm, & isn't a watered-down tips list that could apply to literally anyone. A place that feels like what it actually is: two women who get it, sitting down together with their coffee, talking about the real stuff.

That's what The Bestie Brief is & this is Issue No. 1.

Pull up a chair. I've saved you a seat.

Before we get into it, Let me introduce myself

I'm Stephanie Manley & I run two businesses that I genuinely love. Which, honestly, took a long time to be able to say.

The first is Calculated Profits, a bookkeeping firm I've built to a team of ~20 stay at home mommas. I operate in it about 10 to 15 hours a month now. I'm not in the weeds of client work anymore. I'm not the one answering every question or holding the whole thing together with my bare hands. I built systems. I built a team. I built something that runs without me at the center of it every single day. It didn't happen fast & it didn't happen alone, but it happened. & I am SO grateful for that every single day.

The second is Rescue My Bookkeeping Business, which is where you're hearing from me now. I started RMBB because I kept seeing the same story play out over & over again. Women who were talented, hardworking, deeply capable, & completely burned out. Building entirely alone. Undercharging because they didn't know what to charge. Overdelivering because they were afraid to lose clients they didn't even really want. Running a freelance practice & calling it a business because nobody had ever shown them what it could actually look like if they built it differently.

I wanted to change that. RMBB is how I do it.

My whole coaching framework comes back to one reframe: you are not JUST a bookkeeper. You are the CEO of your firm. The moment a woman actually believes that? Everything starts to shift. How she prices. How she hires. How she spends her time. All of it changes when she stops seeing herself as someone who does bookkeeping & starts seeing herself as someone who runs a business.

That's what I'm here for.

The Life Behind the Business

I live in the Savannah, Georgia area on 200 acres of family land we purchased a few years ago. This land does something for my soul that I can't fully put into words. When the world gets loud (and it does get loud), I go outside. You'll find me on the back porch swing with my coffee watching the sunrise or in the rocking chair with a dog at my feet. You'll often find me riding the UTV around the property just to see what's out there - What's moving, what's growing, what's changed since the last time I looked.  Nature is where I reset.

We early retired my husband, Patrick, in April of last year & having him home full time has genuinely been a Godsend. He helps with the kids, keeps the property running, & keeps our household from completely falling apart while I'm running two businesses. We love remodeling our homestead, so there is always a project, always a decision to make, & always sawdust somewhere it shouldn't be. 😂

We have two teenage boys who are growing up way faster than I'm ready for. Our oldest got his driver's license last month. Our "baby" got his learner's permit last week. I stood in the driveway after & just sort of stared at nothing for a minute. If you have kids at this age, you know exactly what I mean.  And then there's our daughter, Ashleigh, which many of you have had the privilege to meet either on a Zoom, in Slack on at a CEO Weekend.

Of course I can't forget our four-legged children....our dogs. Duke & Daisy are our Boston Terriers. They've been running this house for years & they absolutely know it. Then there's Leo, our French Bulldog, & Pebble, our Frenchton. Both very much in their fun (yet stressful) puppy era with zero signs of slowing down. I am running on coffee & sheer determination...and have stock in Bounty (f you know, you know...)

Faith runs through all of it. How I lead, how I make hard decisions, how I get back up when something doesn't go the way I planned. It's not a performance & it's not a talking point. It's just who I am & it shows up here naturally because this space is honest.

I'm an ambivert. I can work a room & I love my people deeply, but I also need real quiet to fill back up. The porch swing does more for me than most things & finding that balance, knowing when to pour out & when to pull back, is something I'll probably come back to a lot in this newsletter because I think a lot of us are still figuring it out.

Why I started the Bestie Brief

Honestly? I noticed a gap.

I have a lot of ways to connect with my community. My paid programs like The Bookkeeper’s Bestie Club and Next Level Bestie. In Person Events like CEO Weekends and Retreats. My Facebook community. Instagram... All of it exists because I believe you should not be building this alone.

But there were women in the margins of all of that. Following along, watching from the sidelines, not quite ready to step into a program yet, but hungry for something more than a social media post can give them. They needed a real conversation. Not a reel. Not a caption written to beat an algorithm. Actual substance they could sit with, read, and come back to.

That’s what this is.

The Bestie Brief is where I talk about what I’m actually seeing in the industry. What’s working for firm owners right now & what’s not. What I’m building. What I’m learning, sometimes the hard way and what I think you need to know to make the best decisions for your own firm.

No fluff. No filler. Just honest conversation from one firm owner to another, every couple of weeks, straight to you.

And, I want it to go both ways. At the end of every issue I’m going to leave you with a question, a real one. You can sit with it, reply & tell me what came up, or share it with a bestie who needs it. I read everything & your answers genuinely shape what I write next. That’s not a line - It’s actually how this works.

The Podcast Is Coming Back. Here’s the Real Story.

I owe you some honesty on this one.

The Rescue My Bookkeeping Business Podcast went dormant. I recorded 30+ episodes, built something I was proud of, & then I stopped, and if you’ve ever listened & wondered what happened, here’s the truth. Life got loud & the production system I had built was too heavy for the season I was in. It took too much of me to keep going at a level I was actually proud of. So instead of cranking out mediocre content just to say I was consistent, I chose to pause.

I don’t regret it. But I’ve missed it. Way more than I expected to.

Here’s what’s different now. I’ve spent real time building a simpler, more sustainable system, one that doesn’t require me to move mountains every time I want to record, one that actually fits into the rhythm of my life instead of fighting against it. Because sustainability isn’t glamorous, but it IS everything. I say this to my clients about their firms all the time & it was time to apply it to myself.

The podcast is coming back soon. New episodes, new energy, same honest conversations. & a whole lot less burnout behind the scenes.

You’ll hear about it here first. So make sure you’re checking out The Bestie Brief & not just following on social. The algorithm is not your friend & I can’t promise it’s going to show you everything.

Next Issue: The One About AI

Y’all. AI is everywhere in our industry right now & I have SO many thoughts. I just got back from Scaling New Heights in Orlando where AI was the topic of basically every single breakout session & every hallway conversation. The industry is shifting & the women who are paying attention right now are going to be so far ahead.

Next issue I’m going all in: what I’m actually seeing, what it means for bookkeeping firm owners, & how to stop being afraid of it & start using it like the CEO you are.

Don’t miss it. Tell a bestie who needs this.

One Question For You

Since this is Issue 1 and I want to make sure The Bestie Brief is actually built around what YOU need: what is the ONE thing you are wrestling with in your firm right now?

Hit reply to the email. Tell me what's hard. Tell me what you're trying to figure out. I read every single one & your answers genuinely shape what I write about next.

Keep Thriving 🩷
