THE BESTIE BRIEF

For women bookkeeping firm owners who get it.

Issue No. 1 | June 2026

There's a seat at the table I've been holding for you.

Not in a cheesy, motivational-poster kind of way. I mean it literally. I have been thinking about creating this space for a long time - a place that isn't a sales page, isn't a social media caption written for an algorithm, & isn't a watered-down tips list that could apply to literally anyone. A place that feels like what it actually is: two women who get it, sitting down together with their coffee, talking about the real stuff.

That's what The Bestie Brief is & this is Issue No. 1.

Pull up a chair. I've saved you a seat.

Before we get into it, Let me introduce myself

I'm Stephanie Manley & I run two businesses that I genuinely love. Which, honestly, took a long time to be able to say.

The first is Calculated Profits, a bookkeeping firm I've built to a team of ~20 stay at home mommas. I operate in it about 10 to 15 hours a month now. I'm not in the weeds of client work anymore. I'm not the one answering every question or holding the whole thing together with my bare hands. I built systems. I built a team. I built something that runs without me at the center of it every single day. It didn't happen fast & it didn't happen alone, but it happened. & I am SO grateful for that every single day.

The second is Rescue My Bookkeeping Business, which is where you're hearing from me now. I started RMBB because I kept seeing the same story play out over & over again. Women who were talented, hardworking, deeply capable, & completely burned out. Building entirely alone. Undercharging because they didn't know what to charge. Overdelivering because they were afraid to lose clients they didn't even really want. Running a freelance practice & calling it a business because nobody had ever shown them what it could actually look like if they built it differently.

I wanted to change that. RMBB is how I do it.

My whole coaching framework comes back to one reframe: you are not JUST a bookkeeper. You are the CEO of your firm. The moment a woman actually believes that? Everything starts to shift. How she prices. How she hires. How she spends her time. All of it changes when she stops seeing herself as someone who does bookkeeping & starts seeing herself as someone who runs a business.

That's what I'm here for.

The Life Behind the Business

The truth is, I have a lot of ways to connect with my community. The Bookkeeper's Bestie Club. Next Level Bestie. CEO Weekends. The SHIFT Retreat. My Facebook community. Instagram. All of it is built around one core belief: you should not be building this alone.

But I kept noticing a gap. There were women following along, watching from the sidelines, not quite ready to join a program, but hungry for something more than a social media post. They needed a place to get a real conversation. Not a reel. Not a caption. A real, sit-down-with-your-coffee conversation with someone who gets it.

That's what this is.

The Bestie Brief is going to be the place where I talk about what I'm actually seeing in the industry, what's working for firm owners right now, what's not, what I'm building, what I'm learning, & what I want you to know. No fluff. No filler. Just honest conversation from one firm owner to another.

And I want it to be a two-way street. At the end of every issue I'm going to ask you a question & I want you to actually reply. I read every single response. Your answers shape what I talk about next. This is a community, even in your inbox.

THE PODCAST IS COMING BACK. HERE'S THE REAL STORY.

Okay, I have to be transparent with you about something because that's just how I operate.

The Rescue My Bookkeeping Business Podcast went dormant. I have 30+ episodes out there & then I stopped. And if you've ever listened & wondered what happened, here's the honest answer: life & business got loud, & the production system I had built was too heavy for the season I was in. It required too much of me to sustain without burning out, so instead of putting out mediocre content just to say I was consistent, I chose to pause.

I don't regret that decision. But I've missed it.

Here's what's different now: I've spent real time figuring out a simpler, more sustainable system. One that doesn't require me to move mountains every time I want to record. One that actually fits into the rhythm of how I work instead of fighting against it. Because here's what I know to be true — sustainability isn't sexy but it's everything. I preach this to my clients about their firms all the time. It was time to apply it to myself.

The podcast is coming back soon. New episodes. New energy. Same honest conversations, just more of them & without the behind-the-scenes burnout that killed it the first time.

When it drops, you'll hear about it here first. So make sure you're subscribed to this newsletter & not just following on social, because the algorithm is not your friend & I cannot promise it's going to show you everything.

STEPHANIE IRL

My baby boy got his learner's permit today. TODAY. Which means both of my boys are now officially on the road — my older one got his license last month & now this one is right behind him. I am somewhere between incredibly proud & absolutely not ready. If you have kids at this age you know EXACTLY what I mean. It goes so fast & then one day you look up & they're driving away & you're standing in the driveway wondering when that happened.

Patrick has been home full time since April of last year & I will tell you it has been a genuine Godsend. Running 200 acres, managing two remodels, wrangling four dogs, & raising two teenage boys — having him home & fully present has changed the whole rhythm of our household. Some seasons are freeing. Some are chaotic. Right now with construction going on at both houses? It's a little of both. But I wouldn't trade it.

Speaking of the dogs — Duke & Daisy are unbothered as always, which is the Boston Terrier way. Leo & Pebble, however, are currently in their feral puppy era & I am running on coffee & determination. 😂

I also just got back from Scaling New Heights in Orlando & my heart is full. I hosted a Starbucks meetup for our community while I was there & getting to hug my besties in real life does something that no Zoom call ever could. I came home tired in the best possible way — the kind of tired that comes from pouring yourself into something that actually matters.

You don't want to miss that one. Make sure you're subscribed & tell a friend.
